It ' s been a big year for Knox County .
Last spring saw the opening of the long-awaited Knox Drive-In , converted from Barbourville ' s former water park and featuring huge premier parties for family films like Barbie and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles .
Officials also broke ground for the new Knox Sports , planned on 88 acres off KY 223 . Phase One of this multi-year project consists of four baseball fields constructed in a clover-leaf pattern , expected to open mid-year . Future plans for the sports complex include walking trails and a sensory park .
Looking ahead , county officials recently received funding toward the development of a new industrial park now that the one off Corbin Bypass is nearly full .
