Williamsburg Mayor Roddy Harrison had the privilege to place the first honorary sports wager at The Mint Gaming Hall , marking a historical moment for Williamsburg and the Commonwealth .
Over the course of 2023 , Williamsburg grew in many aspects .
Perhaps the most significant area of growth for Williamsburg in 2023 was economically .
" We ’ ve grown in many ways ," Williamsburg Mayor Roddy Harrison said . " More businesses are investing , renovation of old buildings are continuing , housing has increased , and the University of the Cumberlands enrollment is increasing too !"
In the summer of 2022 , Williamsburg became home to The Mint Gaming Hall .
The Mint offers slot machines , sports betting , and food to their patrons .
So far , the gaming hall has been a resounding success for the city of Williamsburg , bringing in not only increased revenue but also a substantial

amount of tourists .
" We ’ ve been impacted by the Mint in several ways ," Mayor Harrison continued . " The obvious is economically . Occupational , property , and alcohol revenue is up , but the number of tourists that have come through has given a tremendous boost to the economy as well . Besides just spending time and money at The Mint , they ’ re doing the same thing all over the city , and I have no doubt it will continue to grow , especially as the owners develop around the existing property ."
The aforementioned future development has been hinted at by Mayor Harrison as well .
While giving his annual state of the city address in February , Mayor Harrison hinted about the possibility of a hotel on The Mint property .
