This large sum is , to say the least , burdensome on the local government .
As the Kentucky State Legislature works through their legislative session , there has been some rumbling of increased funding for local jails such as the one in Whitley County .
Another new major project that Whitley County is expected to complete within 2024 is the construction of a recreational facility on the Whitley County Fairgrounds property .
The facility is slated to be 125 x 300 feet , making it suitable for large events and gatherings .
According to Judge White , there was a point where the fairgrounds were almost a thing of the past . He said , " I sat down with two representatives from the fairgrounds and they told me , ' It ' s over '... but now we are back on track ."
Judge White also noted that their hope is for the facility to be ready by July of this year , but that it could potentially come later in the year .
The Whitley County Fairgrounds have seen much attention from the Fiscal Court in recent times .
Fiscal Court recently approved a grant application to potentially garner the fairgrounds more funding for further improvements , including the construction of a new bathhouse and walking trail improvements .
The site is slated to be the host of many events , including the annual Whitley County Fair come July .
