Leaders from across the region gathered for the announcement of $ 30.7M funding for broadband services in southern and eastern Kentucky , many areas of which are currently unserved . from underneath if too much tension is applied .
This kind of road repair has become prevalent and is designed to be effective for a substantial period of time , negating the potential of future damage .
Recently , the county received their last round of FEMA grant funding to repair the last of the roads in need of repair .
Judge White was hopeful that , by fixing problem areas with permanent solutions , no more repairs would need to be made in the near future .
In his annual address about the state of the county in February , Judge White highlighted the fact that Whitley County would be receiving opioid settlement monies as a result of successfully litigated federal lawsuits against opioid distributors .
According to Judge White , Whitley County was " among the top 5 in opioid distribution per capita ."
With the money that Whitley County is set to receive , the fiscal court plans to create a rehabilitation facility that can help those who are addicted to illicit substances .
The opioid crisis , while still ongoing , began in the mid-1990s .
