Transportation ’ s Northeast Region , has found the 360-imagery useful in his day-to-day operations too – and it ’ s also been helpful to engineers , designers , and others within the Region . As a surveyor , McInnis might use the imagery one way while someone in bridge design might use it in a different capacity entirely , zooming in on a detail they need a closer look at , such as a beam or abutment . Likewise , maintenance staff might want to review the data to check for encroachments needing to be addressed prior to construction , and real estate specialists may want to review the imagery to get a better feel for the landscape .
“ It definitely benefits the DOT for the amount of information it can collect ,” McInnis said . “ It ’ s a wealth of information , but it all depends who ’ s looking at it . They look at it differently , but it ’ s nice to have it and just make it available .”
