This multi-use facility includes a twostory 5,000-person capacity spectator event center , 100-yard indoor turfed fieldhouse , Center for Health & Wellbeing fitness center , athletic offices , and Mayo Health Clinic System ’ s sports fitness and rehab clinic and will serve UW-Eau Claire , the City of Eau Claire , and a host of other visitors . The project is following a fast-track process where design and construction are phased and overlap to meet the aggressive timelines .
In addition to the multitude of uses this facility will support , it is also being designed and constructed with sustainability , energy efficiency , and environmental stewardship in mind . Some of the top sustainable highlights include :
• Ten electric vehicle charging stations ( with plans for more in the future )
• Water use reduction ( greater than 30 % indoor and 50 % outdoor )
• Enhanced sustainability goals of net-zero energy and net-zero carbon
provided to local teachers to share with their students remotely . An online platform that hosted several community engagement sessions was launched in tandem . This was coupled with do-it-yourself mobile tours for community members to explore innovative ideas for their future housing and town center projects .
Each location has its own set of values that drive its goals , and our team honors those by bringing in key stakeholders before decisions are made . Not only that , but in the fast pace of today ’ s world of connectivity , the team is always exploring new and creative ways to engage with communities .
The plan provided a clear dashboard for implementation that has led to action , including the City receiving an EPA Brownfields Assessment grant to support industrial redevelopment projects , a new code update , and renewed efforts to protect the river watershed . With the dashboard in place , Evans continues to track progress and stay ahead of the growth the community is experiencing .
• Mechanical building system to include 190 vertical geothermal wells that use naturally occurring ground source heat , rather than producing heat through the combustion of fossil fuels , to heat and cool the building
• Building will be fully electric and will not consume fossil fuels , thereby significantly reducing overall operational carbon emissions and dramatically increasing carbon offsets
• Partnership program with Xcel Energy to provide 100 % of facility ’ s power requirements from a local , off-site solar photovoltaic system plant
