Michele Peterson , Lanesboro ’ s city administrator / clerk , said the area immediately below the dam is one of the region ’ s prime trout fishing spots . And just a little further downstream locals and visitors enjoy a variety of water sports , including canoeing , kayaking , and tubing .
“ The dam is definitely an iconic and treasured piece of our community ,” Peterson said . “ It ' s a source of great pride for sure . That ’ s why it was so important that it be repaired .”
A Historic , but Complex Task
“ There ’ s no other dam like this ,” Goodwin said . “ To have a dam that ’ s still standing in its original configuration since 1868 – I mean , that ’ s just amazing . The historic nature of this dam clearly was the most challenging aspect of this project .”
