smaller tributaries . Point mitigation on USFS land will typically use low-tech features made of on-site wood and rock . In addition , the design team is focusing on reducing sediment inputs from degrading USFS access roads . Aerial mulching is expected to continue on USFS land .
This work is occurring in conjunction with efforts by the CPRW , a non-profit organization that has been assisting with the massive amount of collaboration , fundraising , and implementation needs that are required post-fire . CPRW formed after the 2012 High Park and Hewlett Gulch wildfires burned over 90,000 acres of the Poudre Canyon , bringing a decade of post-fire restoration experience to the watershed . While the EWP program ’ s goals involved water quality and protecting lives and property on private property , CPRW ’ s post-fire program is focused on watershed-wide recovery with the aim of protecting downstream water quality , said Shayna Jones , post fire manager for CPRW . The organization is working closely with the City of Greeley , the USFS , City of Fort Collins , and other partners to implement the aerial mulching program . They have also partnered with Ayres to implement point-mitigation projects designed to keep sediment and ash from entering tributary streams with funding from Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment ’ s Non-Point Source 319 program .
CPRW also leads a forest resilience and wildfire mitigation program in the watershed to reduce the risk of future high-severity wildfires . These efforts include expanding the pace and scale of forest treatments with partners . These forest treatments include the use of
