A Look Back : Providing power for nearly a decade and still spinning
Since February 2011 , Alliant Energy ’ s Bent Tree Wind Farm has reliably provided energy on behalf of Wisconsin customers .
Located in Freeborn County near Albert Lea , the wind farm includes 122 wind turbines across 80 square miles of southeastern Minnesota . The turbines have the capacity to produce 201 megawatts – enough to power approximately 53,000 homes each year .
Ayres provided the civil-site design on this quick turnaround project and , in less than 45 days , designed 26.5 miles of access roads , 38 public road improvements , and 122 turbine site assembly areas . Ayres also provided an on-site liaison during construction to answer questions , modify designs , and track design changes . To accommodate the accelerated design schedule , the team worked overtime , developed design workflows , and called on co-workers from other offices . Even despite a tornado tearing through the construction site in June of 2010 , the various project elements still came together in the end – with the blades still spinning to this day .
