Community pools, other aquatic complexes offer recreational opportunities with a splash of family fun By Jennifer Schmidt T here’s a new source of summer fun in the City of Burlington, Wisconsin – and droves of residents and visitors are diving in. The Burlington Community Aquatic Center – a 10,600-square-foot facility nestled within the City’s Devor Park, opened to the public last June. A project three years in the making, the swimming pool replaces a smaller, deteriorating community pool that was more than 50 years old and beyond its useful life. The new pool features three water slides, two diving boards, lap swim area, current channel, zero-depth entry zone with spray structure, climbing wall, and more. On-land features include deck activities, shade structures, bath house with community room and concessions, parking lot, and utility infrastructure replacement. “Everyone is so excited that we were able to bring the pool to reality,” said Carina Walters, Burlington’s city administrator. “What a superb asset for the community.” Planning for the $5 million project began in 2015, with the design process commencing in early 2016. The old pool closed at the end of the summer in 2017; construction on the new pool began that fall, and the new facility opened on June 1, 2018. AyresAssociates.com │15
