The Wisconsin Department of
Administration presented the
Division of State Facilities (DSF)
Excellence in Engineering Design
award to Ayres Associates for the
University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire
Steam Loop project constructed in
2010.
The DSF retained Ayres Associates to
provide design and construction
assistance for a new steam and
condensate loop from upper to lower
campus at the university, replacement
of existing steam and condensate
lines between two buildings on lower
campus, and replacement of piping
through one building on lower campus.
The loop carries steam from the upper
campus heating plant and returns
condensed water back to the heating
plant.
“I don’t recall ever constructing a
$3 million project on campus without
receiving a single complaint from my
clientele,” said Terry Classen, director
of facilities management at UW-Eau
Claire. “That can be attributed to the
thorough planning work upfront from
Ayres.”
Angi Goodwin, PE, a civil engineer in
Eau Claire, was the project manager.
“Angi has successfully performed for
an agency that has specific
expectations and challenging
schedules,” said Disa Wahlstrand,
manager of municipal services in Eau
Claire. “This award is a true credit to
her client management skills and the
performance of her project teams.”

At its annual conference held in
February, the Wisconsin Land
Information Association (WLIA)
presented Kirk Contrucci, CP, vice
president of geospatial services, with
the 2011 Outstanding Contribution
Award.
The award honors Mr. Contrucci’s
many years of involvement with the
WLIA and his dedication to advancing
land records modernization in
Wisconsin – in particular, the major
role he has played in helping to
organize the Wisconsin Regional
Mapping Consortium, which has led
to Wisconsin’s first statewide leaf-off
orthoimagery effort.
Ayres Associates was ranked the 251st
largest design consulting firm in the
United States by Engineering
News-Record magazine. ENR rates
architectural and engineering firms
each year based on total company
billings.
