T
he Cheyenne Steam Plant is a critical pioneer project within the early
stages of efforts to redevelop the West Edge District in Wyoming's capital.
Ayres Associates has been at the forefront of this effort since landing a
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Brownfield Assessment Grant for the City
in 2011. We followed that up with grant application assistance that brought in an
additional $13 million in funding for the redevelopment project. Now, working
with building owner West Edge Development Co LLC, we are beginning the
Steam Plant’s transformation from a vacant industrial facility to a thriving mixed-
use development.
Proposed uses include an urban market with diverse vendors offering specialty
foods, co-working spaces for creative industries, and traditional offices and lofts
on upper floors. Ayres is assisting with environmental assessments, architectural
analysis, zoning entitlements, and site development services. This iconic building
is expected to anchor the renaissance of Cheyenne’s West Edge, potentially
kicking off a new wave of private investment in the City.
