Plastic Surgery

4

Last year more than 51,00 Brits had plastic surgery. Women’ s cosmetic surgery rose by 12.5 % from 2014. Surgeons have said that the increased acceptance of plastic surgery could be due to celebrities such as Sharon Stone and Jamie Lee Curtis openly talking about it. Celebrities are more open to admitting and talking about what surgery they have had done, showing confidence in themselves( Moss, 2016).
Surgeons have now noted that patients actually just want more natural proportionate enhancements, and that this could be influenced by celebrity culture, in which plastic surgery can be subtle, natural looking and attractive( Moss, 2016). Kylie Jenner admitted last year that she has temporary lip fillers Kylie had this done due to how it was such a huge insecurity of hers. She openly admits and talks about this proving that she is confident and comfortable in herself( Delahaye, 2016). This could show women that it is okay to temporarily change your insecurity; you’ re allowed to be proud of that. Changing something that brings yourself down everyday is not a bad thing and that it can make a huge change in a women’ s confidence and self worth.
With more people having more natural procedures on their bodies to change their confidence could show that role models on Instagram and plus sized models have influenced people into still looking their natural selves and being who they are. All of this shows that initially there have been self esteem issues and lower confidence within people and their looks, but women such as Iggy( West, 2015) and Kylie who have changed naturally and have spoken about show that it’ s okay not to be perfect and if anyone is unhappy its okay to change it for yourself. With Kylie’ s lips being her own insecurity she changed it for herself and became much more confident. It is about empowering women into feeling proud and loving themselves, and to not let anything get you down.
