Ashby has demonstrated success in leveraging grant funding to build vision and motivate investment , as evidenced in the West Edge brownfields revitalization project in Cheyenne . To date , the project has attracted over $ 100 million in reinvestment in this emerging district that is driving the rebirth of downtown Cheyenne . Ashby is a recognized expert in downtown development , having spoken on redevelopment topics at state , regional , and national conferences . He ’ s completed extensive work for the Colorado Department of Local Affairs , providing strategic planning as well as the notable Pickaxe Project , which has generated communications strategies for two dozen Colorado Main Street communities .

Educated at the University of Colorado , Ashby holds dual master ’ s degrees in urban design and urban and regional planning , as well as planning and urban design certifications from the American Institute of Certified Planners .
SAME honors business development specialist
Christina Hiegel , business development specialist and senior engineer at Ayres , was awarded the Regional Vice President ’ s Medal for Outstanding Service to the Society of American Military Engineers .
The prestigious award was presented this summer in recognition of Hiegel ’ s participation and leadership in putting together the month-long SAME Colossal Colorado Industry Event and development of the Spirit of the West – Wyoming program featuring speakers from the Wyoming Procurement Technical Assistance Centers , the Wyoming Energy Authority , the Wyoming Integrated Testing Center , and the Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce / Global Based Strategic Deterrent Initiative . project . The City of Loveland , Ayres , and consulting firm JUB all were on hand at the APWA conference to accept the award for best medium-sized transportation project of the year . Ayres ’ role in the project included design and construction services for roadway drainage and water quality improvements , stormwater outfall and soil nail wall improvements , and Dry Creek stabilization .
Mapping project earns national award
The American Council of Engineering Companies awarded a 2021 National Recognition Award to the Wisconsin Regional Orthoimagery Consortium program as part of its Engineering Excellence Awards Gala held virtually in June . The award recognizes the entire consortium , with special recognition for the North Central Wisconsin Planning Commission and Ayres .
This award comes on the heels of an ACEC of Wisconsin Best of State Award for WROC .
Hiegel , who is based in Ayres ’ Cheyenne office , focuses on identifying opportunities where the firm ’ s brownfield redevelopment strategists , urban planners , and landscape architects can use their mix of skills to creatively solve clients ’ environmental and planning challenges . Hiegel has 19 years of experience as a civil / environmental engineer , data quality expert , and project manager .
Team lands APWA CO Chapter award
Ayres was part of a project team receiving an award in October from the Colorado American Public Works Association for the City of Loveland ’ s 37th Street and Dry Creek Improvements
Despite a global pandemic that prompted a shift to working from home and halted projects around the state , the one-of-a-kind mapping program known as WROC soldiered on . It delivered high-quality , highly accurate geospatial data and , for the first time , achieved statewide 12-inch-pixel orthoimagery coverage .
