The MEPPP ’ s various visibility settings assist with project set-up .
One of the MEPPP ’ s biggest benefits to users involves “ prefabricated design ,” where different arrangements of equipment come already modeled . This is an example of a 2-million-Btu- ( British thermal unit ) per-hour boiler plant that has design , flow propagation , sizing , and calculations done upfront .
Bryan Haider of Guither ’ s team has been working on the automation of project set-up , using the Revit add-in Dynamo to create a streamlined process of removing unneeded content during project set-up – everything from levels in the model to floorplan views to schedules to sheets to details , all based on a keyword system they ’ ve created . In the near future , this will also work in an opposite manner by adding content automatically from a cloud content management system called HIVE . What used to take two days fully setting up a model is now done in two hours .
“ This is oversimplifying , but it is a starter template that allows you to have a running start when you kick off a project ,” said Ed Studniski , director of MEP Services . “ It really does so much more , though . It allows you to bring in family content that informs anyone who ’ s using the model . If you ’ re the mechanical engineer and you bring in a piece of mechanical equipment , electrical has all the information they need from that family . So does structural . They know the weight , size , and dimensions and all that essential information .”
