rehabilitation costs were not costeffective . Removal of the old bridge was an adverse effect that could not be avoided .

2019

The Documentation for Consultation was completed in March for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation , documenting the project team ’ s efforts to contact property owners , area historical societies , potentially affected Native American tribes , and others who could be affected by the planned project .
Making a good faith effort to relocate the old bridge and erecting a monument outlining the historic significance of the structure were agreed on in the Memorandum of Agreement as a means to mitigate the adverse effects . The Memorandum of Agreement is a legal document between the Federal Highway Administration , the Wisconsin State Historic Preservation Office , and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation . After eight months of review by all necessary parties , it was signed in November .
In February , advertisements were placed in regional newspapers and news releases submitted to media to make the public aware that the old bridge was being offered for relocation . Seven interested parties requested an information packet ; all were required to submit a proposal to explain how they would move the bridge and how it would be used . Two proposals were received , and area resident Ken Luety ’ s application for relocation was approved in August .

2020

The bridge contractor was selected in February , the old bridge was removed in March , and work began on the new structure in June . The new bridge was opened to the public in autumn .

2021

Work continued , some of which
involved commemorative plaques being attached to a salvaged piece of the old concrete abutment . The monument was placed this year in Turtle Creek Parkway on public lands adjacent to the new bridge . The Memorandum of Agreement is now complete .
