Retired CFL pro-athlete Sebastian Clovis actually fell in love with renovations before he fell in love with football ! He started working as an apprentice at the age of 14 and continued until he left for college on a football scholarship . Having played professionally for the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the B . C Lions , Sebastian decided to retire from football in 2009 and launch his own home reno business where he can be creative and help others . As the co-host of HGTV Canada ’ s Save My Reno series , Sebastian works together with Designer Samantha Pynn to help homeowners complete their renovations on a limited budget .
CANADIAN HOME TRENDS What advice would you give young people interested in trades ?
SEBASTIAN CLOVIS Just do it ! I don ’ t mean go and take your mom ’ s walls down or tear out her cabinets ! Go and fix the fence outside , fix the bird feeder , level out the stones leading up to the house . Start looking for the little things that need to be done .
CHT What is your favorite room to work on ?
SC The kitchen is the most exciting room for sure , because it has the most elements and you have to make them all fit together . It is the ultimate orchestra .

CHT What would we see in your garage / workshop ?
SC You ’ re touching on a secret part of my life right now ! There are a few people out there who call me the squirrel because I just store everything away ! There are a lot of scrap wood and interesting old pieces in my workshop . I ’ m an upcycle enthusiast and I have a hard time throwing things away when I know there are ways I can upcycle them . Upcycled pieces add so much more interest and personality to a room .
CHT What is something you could not live without ?
SC I ’ m a very minimalist type of person without a lot of attachments . I would say my dog . I would not want to go a day without her .
