“EVERYTHING IS FOR
EVERYBODY”: ANNA WINTOUR
SHARES HER TOP TAKEAWAYS
FROM PARIS FASHION WEEK
Wintour also considered designers’ varying
approaches to heritage brands, from Clare Waight
Keller “coming into her own” at Givenchy to Hedi
Slimane’s complete reimagining of Celine.
“There were many, many things to talk about and think
about this season,” Anna Wintour prefaced in this
video—think being the operative word. Thought-
provoking fashion doesn’t come along every season,
but Spring 2019 delivered—and in Paris, the most
forward-thinking shows pushed the envelope and
presented totally new ideas. Take John Galliano’s
Maison Margiela show, for instance: “[It] really explored
the idea of sexual identity in a very free way,” Wintour
said. “We’ve been talking to some of the department
stores this week, and were [speaking] very strongly
about the idea that menswear and womenswear
doesn’t need to be separated anymore—what we’re
seeing on the runway should be reflected in the stores
themselves. Everything is for everybody, and we need
to embrace not only all cultures and all races, but also
all sexual identities.” (Buyers, consider this a free tip!)
