Q
You were selected by our educators as the Superintendent of the Year. What do
people not know about your job that they would find interesting?
A
Q
I think many would find it interesting, maybe not, how much time and energy is
dedicated to facilities, transportation, scheduling, personnel, politics, food services,
and community engagement (not in that order). The public is always surprised at the
magnitude of a school district, which in many instances is the largest employer and
largest partaker of county dollars. I always take the time to do a breakdown of our
school district at any public meeting so I can create a better understanding of what we
do beyond educating students.

A
Never lose sight of the
significance or the impact you
make in the classroom today
and in the future. There is
nothing so magical as when
you recognize when a child has
mastered something that has
been a challenge and you had
a hand in making it happen.
There is no better career than
being a classroom teacher,
which is the reason I still teach.
