LESSON 1
WHAT ARE MY MONEY PRIORITIES?
One of the easiest ways to see what is most important to you, is to observe trends in how
you spend your money. A person could observe where you spend the most and assume that
that thing is among your top priorities. What happens when things you say you don't really
value appear to consume the bulk of your earnings? Take a look at the list below. Next to
each item, write a (1) if it is very important to you, (2) if it is somewhat important, or (3) if it is
not really important.
_____ charitable giving/tithing ____ family
_____ education/training ____ pets
_____ saving ____ personal care
_____ food ____ friends
_____ clothes ____ entertainment
Now, think about what you have spent money on over the last month. Where did most of
your money go?

Setting financial priorities is a skill that all leaders must develop. Being a good steward of
your money demonstrates obedience to God and self-control. Gaining people's trust and
their permission to have influence with them is much easier when they see that you have
self-control in all areas of your life, including how you spend your money.
It is never to early to develop a plan for managing your money, no matter how much you are
earning. In the next activity you will create a Money Management Plan. First, take a few
minutes to complete the Teen Budget Worksheet . Your facilitator will provide a copy. You
will use your worksheet results to develop your Money Management Plan.
