He understands life just how truly delicate life is and vows to do everything he can to make the most out of future. For Mejias (and the entire LPA baseball team) childhood became adulthood with no warning last fall when 3 of his team mates were involved in a fatal car wreck that cost the life of his best friend Christian Medina. “That has by far been the most challenging situation I have ever been in. It made me value my life and excel in everything I choose to do in my life”, says the well-spoken 17 year old 11 grader. With baseball consuming the past 12 years of his life you would be hard pressed to find anything that this student-athlete values more – except education. “Education is the most important thing in being successful in life”, says Mejias with authority. So it’s no wonder that Mejias has a blistering 3.75 un-weighted GPA at one of the state’s most demanding high school. And it’s also no big surprise that history is his favorite subject. Mejias’s family heritage is rich in the history of what it takes to succeed. His folks (Louis and Tina) own a pizza restaurant in Lakewood Park that they bought from Tina’s brother, Frank Silva – the Frank behind the very successful Frank and Al’s pizza restaurant brand in White City and St. Lucie West. And “Uncle Frank” knows a thing or two about athletics as well, being a former champion personal watercraft racer who traveled the country competing with the best of the best. The success that his family has established over the years has had a huge impact on the way that Mejias plays the game he loves. For their part LouTina’s has a history as one of the best pizza parlors in North Fort Pierce. As a relief pitcher he has only allowed 4-runs all season. And those four runs were in just one game against pow“I admire my uncle Frank because he is a hard worker erhouse team Palm Beach Gardens. In the 6 other games 26 and motivated to be successful”.
