Polar Bear Plunge
Lori Corcoran, Events Coordinator/Recreation Director
Is there a greater way to spend a rainy Saturday morning than slipping on your bathing suit and plunging into Treasure Lake with your friends? Participants of the YMCA's Annual Polar Bear Plunge did just that! Around 25 people dared to take a dip in the 37 degree waters off the Treasure Lake Marina on Saturday, January 11, 2014. With swimmers as young as 8 years old on hand the participants were able to raise money for our local DuBois YMCA.
The swimmers arrived between 9:30am and 10:45am to register with the YMCA volunteers and enjoyed some Scotty's Donuts and coffee. The Lakeview Lodge provided hot chocolate to help warm up the participants before and after the big
plunge. The event was broadcasted live all morning by our friends at Sunny 106. At 11:00 am they braved the cold and took the Plunge!
After the plunge the swimmers headed over to the Lakeview Lodge to warm up with a hot meal. The food was great and the drinks were flowing as swimmers, volunteers and the crowd of family and friends enjoyed a great event hosted by the YMCA and Treasure Lake. Thank you to all the sponsors and volunteers that helped make this event a success!
