Key Recommendations Issue 8: Popular sports & considerations Responses from ground survey reflected a shift in popular sports and the factors taken into considerations. Badminton was cited as the most popular sport and factors such as accessibility, cost and social networks were taken into consideration. Suggestions were made for TRCYW to organize weekly social sports in line with the current popular sports to encourage youth to adopt an active lifestyle. Issue 9: Gender & race restrictions The sports and fitness scene is perceived to be a largely male-dominated space. Lack of Indian female participation in the sports scene was discussed under gender restrictions. Subtle racial discrimination in sports CCA leading to sentiments of exclusion or not belonging were discussed as well. Gym introductory classes and the formation of gym groups for females were suggested to increase their participation in the sports and fitness scene. Issue 10: Nutritional Awareness Youth were aware of the Indian community’s unhealthy eating habits but they were not aware of the extent of its detriment to their health. This is due to a lack of information about the nutritional content of common Indian foods. A calorie guide for common Indian foods was suggested to make informed choices and keep track of calories. This guide could be shared on social media platforms to ensure it is easily accessible. A YouTube channel was also proposed to promote healthy lifestyle habits and greater awareness on pressing health and wellness issues. Maathi Yosi | 2019 6
