Workshops
Based on the participants’ discussion, workshops revolving around certain tools
and topics stood out. The target audience and purpose of each would differ.
The purpose of this workshop is to equip university students, specifically Tamil
Language Society students with the skills to design posters, booklets, tickets, etc.
for their events. It is hoped that that through this workshop, participants will be
equipped with photoshop skills that can aid them in their future projects.
Additionally, it is hoped that they will be able to pass this knowledge to fellow
members of their societies. This serves as a platform for participants to
network with one another and expand their connections within the
community after university. To understand if this workshop was successful,
feedback will be collected after the session and a follow up feedback survey
will be conducted in 6 months to find out if participants have used or taught
anyone the skills they learnt. The number of participants who use or share the
skill learnt after the workshops ultimately is a gauge of its effectiveness.
B) Tableau
The purpose of this workshop is to provide junior college students undertaking
Project Work (PW) a platform to develop visualisations of their PW data, in a
way that will set them apart from their peers. This will also be an opportunity to
introduce technology in a fun yet educational way to them. It is hoped that
participants will be well equipped with skills to visualise data using the
commonly used industrial tool, Tableau. They will be able to learn and apply
the skills taught via PW. The workshop will serve as a platform to spark
interest in the field of data science/visualization. This introductory platform
also unites students from different institutions, thereby elevating their social
skills. To understand if this workshop was successful, feedback will be
collected after the session from the students and follow up feedback from the
students will be collected to find out if they used Tableau in their PW
presentations.
