Issue 8: Popular sports & considerations
Ultimately, the consensus was that the level of ease and a non-competitive
environment were crucial factors when considering to take up a sport. Lastly,
participants reflected that a consistent social network made up of people with
similar interests, with respect to fitness and physical activities, would greatly
motivate them to take up sports more actively. Moreover, it would also ensure
that it becomes a sustainable habit in the long run. Participating in sporting
events is a largely social affair. As seen in figure 14, apart from flexible
training, motivation from peers took precedence over self-motivation. This
reinstates the point about the importance of strong social networks.
