Key Recommendations
Issue 1: Theatre & film production interest
Youths lack awareness of the happenings in the Tamil theatre scene. Youths lack
exposure to quality theatre and are critical of the shows’ quality put up by student
and professional theatre productions. To address these, a one stop online interface
comprising of events calendar and review page is proposed. This will increase
awareness about Tamil events and offer consistent and quality reviews
respectively.
Issue 2: Dance & music involvement and participation
There is a lack of opportunities for potential artists to perform or hone their
talents as highlighted during the discussion. A TRCYW Arts & Language
Youtube channel is suggested to feature groups or individuals who are talented in
the Tamil arts. This provides them with a platform of endorsement. Through this
they are able to gain recognition and exposure.
Issue 3: Language, novel writing & education interest
Youths were concerned about the decreasing percentage of Tamil speaking
individuals and making Tamil language applicable to day-to-day life. These
coupled with youths’ interest in writing short stories and poetry led to the
conceptualisation of an online novel, short story and poetry blog. This will help
to legitimise their work and pursue their passion in writing as well as make Tamil
language relevant to their daily lives.
