Issue 3: Language, novel writing & education interest
During this discussion, most of the participants had more solutions to offer for
the decreasing percentage of Tamil speaking individuals. This general
reaction is a testament to the sense of pride most of the youth have for the
Tamil language regardless of their level of proficiency in Tamil.
They did suggest that the reason for this decrease is due to the fact that
speaking Tamil language does not result in the availability of lucrative job
opportunities. Therefore, there is less of an incentive to master it. With
regards to the way Tamil is taught, participants offered a revamping of the
syllabus so that its applicability in day-to-day life is apparent.
