From a growth standpoint, the acquisition of IJUS in fiscal year 2019 and our recent
acquisitions of Lockheed Martin Distributed Energy Solutions and Environmental
Partners Inc. have helped us bolster our capabilities in fast growing segments of our
business, expand our geographical reach and build a new pipeline of client relation-
ships. We are excited to integrate these groups into our organization and we will
continue to pursue value-added acquisitions to help us service our clients and meet
our growth goals.
We published our 2020 sustainability targets five years ago and are proud of the
progress we have made in all aspects of the business, from energy consumption
to procurement to safety and employee engagement. In FY19 we achieved a 23%
reduction in energy use within our offices, over our 2014 baseline, surpassing our tar-
get of 20% reduction by 2020. We have achieved a 49% reduction in paper use over
the past four years and 95% of our offices are currently recycling.
We continue to emphasize our strong commitment to health and safety. While “zero
incidents/zero harm” will always be our goal, our Total Recordable Incident Rate
(TRIR) of .28 for FY19 reflects a strong performance, with effective engagement and
commitment to continual improvement in our program across our organization.
Last year we launched our Women’s Network, a forum where women’s career chal-
lenges can be discussed and addressed. We also expanded our Employee Mentor-
ing program in the Environmental Sector, which includes almost 400 employees now.
Our network of sustainability champions continues to grow across our business, with
over 60 Sustainability Coordinators and various office Green Teams, driving change
on the ground and promoting best practices. In 2019 we expanded our Earth Day ini-
tiative to a company-wide competition, and I was pleased to see over 700 employees
from 80 offices engaging at work and in their communities to make the Earth a better
place to live.
We are currently evaluating and resetting our sustainability targets that expire this
year and we will publish those in our 2020 Sustainability Report. In our role as a
responsible and responsive leader and partner, we embrace the trust our employees
and clients place in us as we work toward a more sustainable future. I am confident
that together, we will continue to do great things.
