TRC | 2017 SUSTAINABILITY REPORT
PROMOTING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Innovation and technology are key focus areas for TRC’s growth. This will be a critical talent and engagement focus
in our 5-year strategy to accelerate and advance a community of thought leadership, bringing new and innovative
approaches to our clients. We recognize the benefits to and from employees who enhance their professional
capabilities and qualifications through formal education.
Through the TRC Academy, we deliver a wide variety of professional development and required training courses. All
new employees are enrolled in the Academy as part of the on-boarding process and assigned required courses. They
can also access other courses throughout their careers to maintain professional and state licenses as well as access
continuing education courses for business understanding, development and enrichment. In specific and appropriate
circumstances, TRC shares or pays the cost of formal education through the Tuition Reimbursement Program for
coursework that is directly applicable to the employee’s job function at TRC. We also encourage membership in at
least one technical society related to an employee’s technical specialty.
In FY17, all employees received financial goals, and managers worked with employees to set business and
professional development goals, as well. Our aim is to engage in meaningful dialogue regarding career development
and performance on a regular basis with all employees which includes the newly implemented a formal annual
review process.
Our talent review process was rolled out in FY17 to identify pipeline and development imperatives to support the
growth and development of critical experts and leaders in our industry. Our employee engagement plans include
strengthening critical programs such as our performance management and career development programs, while also
launching new efforts such as supervisor/leadership training and a project excellence awards program to recognize
exemplary project teams.
In FY17 95% of our full and part-time employees received a formal performance review. We also recently invested in
new tools for performance development, total rewards and compensation planning, which will be rolled out in FY18,
as well as the launch of monthly manager training for new and existing managers to support supervisory capabilities.
DEVELOPING LEADERS AT TRC
TRC provides a two-tiered excellence in project management program designed to support the continuing
improvement of our existing staff of talented project managers, as well as provide an opportunity to nurture
and develop our aspiring project managers.
The two-day intensive sessions are presented in an interactive format and facilitated by seasoned project
managers and company leaders. The on-site nature of the program allows our colleagues to interact with
members of our team from all parts of the country and each of our practices.
Additionally, we offer a monthly webinar program – EPM Companion – to provide live 45-minute project
management refresher topics. These webinars are open to all TRC project managers and leadership.
In October 2017, TRC launched a digital learning experience for new employee managers and an on-going
development experience for all managers. Partnering with Skillsoft, we launched a contemporary micro-
learning format, webinar and digitally enabled to provide managers with a flexible, relevant learning format
tied to TRC’s business and leadership cycle. This investment in continuous learning sets TRC apart as a firm
adapting to deliver essentials modern day managers need in a mobile, engaging format.
