TRC 2017 Sustainability Report TRC 2017 Sustainability Report | Página 27

As a quickly growing business, we had a number of challenges in FY17, including biological incidents associated with field projects and motor vehicle backing incidents with rental cars. TRC’s executive safety council and safety team developed strategies to target hazards within business sectors in an effort to reduce risk using leading and lagging indicators, such as hazard recognition assessments (Safe Catch reports and Observations). Focus areas included: ■ ■ Motor vehicle safety, including development of TRC’s First Move Forward initiative. ■ ■ Safe catch reporting, maximizing the opportunity to identify and trend data on leading indicators. ■ ■ Utilization of TRC’s Safety Academy training platform. ■ ■ Implementation of an electronic app for performing safety observations and submitting Safe Catch reports. ■ ■ Subcontractor management, and prequalification. ■ ■ Safety observations and feedback program to assess safe work practices in the field. ■ ■ Safety audits to confirm compliance with company and regulatory requirements. Looking forward, in FY18 we are working with a new software program to manage our investigation and corrective action process and better analyze incident trends to focus on root cause analysis and corrective actions. Employees will also be able to report unsafe conditions via a connected app interface which will further improve employee participation in actively reporting hazards. “ We use our health and safety management system, which follows OHSAS 18001, to communicate roles and responsibilities, identify hazards and implement effective controls to minimize risk to employees and contractors, As our company continues to grow and expand the range of services provided, a stan- dardized process for managing workplace safety consistently and effectively is even more critical. Our management system helps us assess and mitigate risks associated with our full range of work - whether stack testing hundreds of feet above the ground or surveying mussels in frigid river waters. ” Todd Woletz, TRC’s Corporate Safety Compliance Manager 2020 TARGET Zero incidents/zero harm Safety Incident Metrics: TRIR and LWCR 1 0.8 0.48 FY17 Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) 0.6 0.4 0.2 0 FY2012 FY2013 FY2014 TRIR FY2015 FY2016 FY2017 TWCR 25
