Sustainability Strategy and Reporting
“TRC worked with our global management team at Fitesa to help us define a
corporate-wide sustainability strategy and develop our first public sustainability
report. Working with our team representing eight countries over a period
of about 6 months, TRC guided us through a well-defined process. Our first
corporate sustainability report, following the Global Reporting Initiative GRI G4
framework, was published in 2014. TRC helped us tell a story that we are proud
of… http://www.fitesa.com/about-us/sustainability/”

Sustainable Remediation of Riverfront Site
“TRC’s exceptional management and technical expertise were integral to the success of
the soil and sediment remediation at the site.
Working hand in hand with DTE Energy, TRC
addressed technical and regulatory challenges and effectively managed the expectations
and concerns of public stakeholders and
the community while keeping the project
moving forward at an aggressive pace. TRC’s
strategic approach satisfied diverse project
needs, which resulted in an effective cleanup that protected the community and the
environment while maintaining good public re
lations and controlling costs.”
Stakeholder Engagement
In 2014, Michigan-based Consumers Energy decided to retire some of its older
coal-fired plants due to environmental regulatory requirements that will make
continued operation uneconomical. When they made this decision they knew
one community in particular would face a significant impact. The J. R. Whiting
plant, located in Luna Pier, Monroe County, represents a substantial contribution
to the community’s tax base and employs local residents. Consumers Energy is
committed to helping Luna Pier and Monro e County successfully transition the
impacted communities after the plant is retired, and selected TRC to develop and
conduct a community stakeholder engagement process.
The goal was to strategically identify stakeholders and economic development
opportunities to support a regional comprehensive economic development
strategy.
“TRC’s stakeholder engagement strategy proved to be key in bringing together
stakeholders to leverage their power, diversity and resources,” said Doug
Tamboer, Sustainability Director for Consumers Energy. “Today, community
leaders have taken ownership for the transition plan and are working
collaboratively with Consumers Energy toward sustainable solutions.”
