Do we have a moral duty to be happy?
People spend their whole lives trying to understand what it means to live well. Kant and Aristotle both ask what it means to live a good life, yet their answers contrast a common problem faced by each person in the modern world: happiness versus duty. This is something easily felt when making any simple or not-so-simple choice. The choice could be studying for a test instead of going out with friends, being honest about something you did wrong instead of lying, or letting go of bad influences in your life. These choices can be some of the hardest choices we make in our lives, since picking what we know is right may come with hard sacrifices. Kant and Aristotle are now names of fame because of their thoughts on these exact same and somewhat similar daily dilemmas.
