being locked away and alone , I still am , and exist because God still perceived me . It could possibly be that God perceives everyone and everything . Perhaps , isolated , I exist to God , but I don ’ t exist to other people because , for them , all that exists is what they know and what exists in their minds . And if they don ’ t know me , I do not exist for them , but God perceives me and I exist for him . That makes more sense . If I was locked I also would be deprived of perceiving other things I don ’ t know about , yet they continue to exist because God still perceives them . Just as what exists to me are only my ideas , what exists to God are his ideas as well . We are all ideas inside God ’ s mind because God is all-knowing and perceives everything .

Dear Diary ,
After going over and over Berkeley ’ s concept and rereading the textbook , I figured he must be a monist because all his arguments had one idea in common . There is only one kind of stuff , the mental substance . “ Berkeley himself focused his theory of reality in a threeword Latin sentence : Esse est Percipi , “ To be is to be perceived .” ( Miller and Jensen , 111 ) Berkeley thought of reality , in some way , as mind . Finally , my philosophy class period was actually used to ponder . For the first time I sat in my chair and ongoingly thought about it for the whole hour . I thought I found a loose end in Berkeley ’ s philosophy , that his concept was conditional because he thinks that we exist only because we are perceived , and solves his problem by arguing everything exists because God perceives it . But I thought , who perceives God ? How can he exist and perceive us , if you can only be if you are perceived ? Do we perceive each other ? Are there exceptions in philosophy ? But then I remembered something Mr . Harold said , last class . He said there aren ’ t exceptions in philosophy , only problems to find solutions for . Berkeley was a believer , he perceives God in nature , in himself , and everywhere . Then that solves my problem . We perceive God , and God perceives us .
