HUSQVARNA AND GASGAS RECALL OFF-ROAD MODELS OVER REAR BRAKE CALIPER RISK

Husqvarna Mobility and GASGAS have announced global recalls covering a number of their motocross, enduro and cross-country motorcycles fitted with Braktec brake systems, following the identification of a potential issue with the rear brake caliper.
The recalls apply to specific model-year motorcycles sold in all markets, with affected owners being asked to have the rear brake caliper and caliper bracket replaced free of charge by an authorised dealer.
For Husqvarna, the recall covers 2022-2024 enduro and cross-country models equipped with Braktec brakes. GASGAS has announced a slightly broader campaign covering 2021-2024 motocross, enduro and cross-country models fitted with the same brake system.
According to both manufacturers, ongoing market monitoring identified a condition where, under certain riding circumstances, excessive loads can be placed on the rear brake caliper. In rare cases, this could cause the caliper to break.
Although only a limited number of cases have been identified, both brands are taking a precautionary approach and will replace the affected components on all motorcycles falling within the recall.
The replacement involves the complete rear brake caliper and its mounting bracket, rather than simply inspecting the existing component. The work will be carried out at no cost to owners and must be performed by an authorised Husqvarna Mobility or GASGAS dealer.
Owners of affected motorcycles are expected to receive notification by letter, while both manufacturers also provide online service and safety-check facilities allowing owners to determine whether their individual motorcycle is included in the campaign.
The recalls are particularly relevant to riders using these machines in demanding off-road environments, where repeated heavy braking, impacts and rough terrain can place substantial loads on braking components. A failure of the rear caliper could result in a loss of rear braking capability and potentially affect the rider ' s ability to control the motorcycle.
What about KTM?
Importantly, the recall does not extend to the equivalent KTM models simply because they are closely related motorcycles within the same wider KTM Group.
The Husqvarna and GASGAS campaigns specifically identify motorcycles fitted with the affected Braktec rear brake components. KTM ' s current official safetyrecall listings do not identify the corresponding KTM motocross, enduro and cross-country models as being included in this particular rear-caliper campaign.
KTM also maintains its own VIN-based recall checker, allowing owners to determine whether their individual motorcycle is subject to a manufacturer recall or safety warning.
The distinction is worth making because Husqvarna, GASGAS and KTM share considerable engineering and platform technology, meaning apparently similar motorcycles can nevertheless use different components or specifications. The existence of this recall should therefore not be interpreted as a recall of equivalent KTM models.
For Husqvarna and GASGAS owners, however, the message is straightforward: if the motorcycle falls within the specified model-year and category ranges, its rear caliper should be checked through the relevant manufacturer ' s service system and the replacement arranged with an authorised dealer.
Both manufacturers stress that the campaign is preventative. The companies say the action is being taken despite the limited number of reported cases, with the intention of removing the potential risk rather than waiting for further failures to occur.
For riders who regularly subject their motorcycles to the demanding conditions of motocross, enduro or crosscountry riding, ensuring the recall has been completed is particularly important. The replacement is free, and affected machines should not simply be assumed to be safe because no problem has yet become apparent. TRAVERSE
