TRAVERSE 43
There are places that stay with you long after you have left them. Nepal is one of those places. For us at Traverse, it represents so much of what we love about motorcycle travel: extraordinary landscapes, unforgettable roads, rich culture and, above all, the people who make a journey truly memorable.
We have ridden through Nepal a number of times. We have travelled its mountain roads, passed through remote villages and spent time with people whose warmth and generosity have left a lasting impression. It is a country that gets under your skin, not simply because of the sheer exhilaration of riding through the Himalayas, but because of the connections made along the way.
That is why the events of 2026 have been particularly difficult to watch.
On 26 August, a catastrophic debris flow and flash flood, believed to have been triggered by a rapid slope failure involving a glacier in Langtang National Park, swept almost 100 kilometres downstream through the Lende Khola and Trishuli Khola river systems. Roads, bridges, buildings and vital infrastructure were destroyed or buried. The devastation extended across communities in Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading, with the eventual death toll exceeding 1,450 people and thousands more reported missing.
