A NEW KID

ON THE

ADVENTURE

BLOCK

The next big name in Chinese adventure motorcycles may already have the engine, technology and ambition to make the established players nervous. ZXMOTO is preparing to take its 820 platform into the adventure market with the new 820X, a motorcycle aimed squarely at the growing class of high-performance middleweight adventure machines. While ZXMOTO is a new name to many riders, the company is not starting from zero. Founded by Zhang Xue, the man behind Kove, ZXMOTO has built its reputation around lightweight, high-performance motorcycles and has already taken the 820 platform onto the international racing stage. Its 820RR has competed in the 2026 FIM World Supersport Championship, with Valentin Debise delivering multiple victories for the factory Evan Bros Racing team. That racing connection is important because the 820X is expected to share the same fundamental engine architecture as the 820RR: an 818.8cc, liquid- and oilcooled inline three-cylinder engine. ZXMOTO has confirmed that its adventure model, currently also referred to as the 820ADV in official material, produces around 117 horsepower and uses a 19-inch front and 17- inch rear wheel combination. That puts the 820X into a particularly interesting part of the adventure market. Rather than competing with smaller parallel-twin machines, ZXMOTO is targeting motorcycles such as the Yamaha Ténéré 700, KTM 890 Adventure and BMW F 900 GS while bringing considerably more cylinder count and technology to the equation. The triple-cylinder engine is likely to be the bike ' s biggest selling point. Three-cylinder engines offer a useful middle ground between the punch of a twin and the smoothness and top-end performance of a four-cylinder, and the 820 platform has already demonstrated serious performance in its sportsbike application. The roadgoing 820RR produces 99kW, or 135hp, while the racederived versions push significantly beyond that figure. For an adventure motorcycle, however, outright horsepower is only part of the equation. The 820X appears to be designed around technology as much as engine performance. ZXMOTO ' s published information for the 820 adventure platform lists electronic suspension, adaptive cruise control, front and rear cameras and an electronic clutch, features that would put the bike towards the technologically ambitious end of the segment. Adaptive cruise control is particularly significant. Once largely restricted to expensive premium motorcycles, radar-assisted cruise systems are increasingly filtering down through the adventure market, but their inclusion on a Chinese motorcycle in this class demonstrates just how quickly technology is moving. The electronic suspension should also give the 820X considerable versatility. Adventure riders can spend the morning crossing highways, the afternoon on gravel and the following day dealing with rougher terrain, so the
