difficult terrain and see how they perform as teams.
The locations have changed dramatically over the years, from African desert and steppe to mountains and forests, but the underlying philosophy has remained. Romania arguably suited that philosophy particularly well. The country offers a rare combination of accessible European infrastructure and genuinely wild mountain terrain. The Carpathians provide thousands of kilometres of roads and tracks through forests and high country, while villages, farms and historic routes provide a constantly changing backdrop. For the riders, however, there was little time to simply admire it. Long days meant that the route became a constant calculation of energy and concentration. A rider could be technically capable but still make mistakes simply through fatigue. Wet clothing had to be dried, motorcycles checked and bodies recovered before the next day ' s start. That is where the team format matters. A rider who becomes stuck in a riverbed is no longer an individual competitor. Someone needs to help lift the bike. A difficult climb becomes a group exercise. Navigation mistakes affect everyone.
The fastest rider is not necessarily the most valuable rider if the rest of the team is left behind.

The 2026 event was the tenth edition of the International GS Trophy, and Romania provided a suitably demanding backdrop for the anniversary.
It was also a return to Europe after BMW ' s previous European edition in Albania, while the event ' s choice of the R 12 G / S reinforced the“ Back to Basics” philosophy.
Rather than trying to make the tenth edition bigger simply by making it faster, BMW concentrated on making the terrain and teamwork more demanding.

An eightkilometre navigation challenge. High-altitude mountain routes. Riverbeds, gravel, mud, grass and washed-out tracks. By the final day, the riders were not simply competing against the other teams. They
