KLIM ' S GT1 EXPEDITION ARRIVES
After almost five years of development, KLIM has unveiled what it describes as the most advanced modular touring helmet it has ever produced. The new GT1 Expedition represents a significant leap forward in premium adventure and touring head protection, combining lightweight carbon fibre construction with innovative impact technology, refined aerodynamics and rider-focused practicality.
Designed for riders who spend long days crossing continents rather than commuting across town, the GT1 Expedition has been engineered to reduce fatigue while maximising comfort and protection in virtually every riding environment.
At the heart of the helmet is a hand-laid carbon fibre shell paired with a carbon fibre modular chin bar, keeping overall weight to a minimum without compromising strength. The helmet employs three shell sizes and five EPS liner configurations to deliver a more precise fit across the size range, with KLIM even giving the popular Large size its own dedicated shell geometry to optimise comfort and performance.
Perhaps the biggest technological talking point is the integration of KOROYD, a material more commonly associated with premium snow sports protection. Positioned between layers of EPS, the distinctive tubular structure is designed to absorb impact energy more efficiently while also allowing air to flow through the helmet. KLIM says this dual-purpose construction not only improves impact management but also significantly reduces heat build-up, addressing one of the biggest challenges faced by adventure riders in warmer climates. The GT1 Expedition ' s modular mechanism has also received considerable attention. Rather than relying on a conventional hinge arrangement, KLIM has developed a proprietary system that allows the chin bar to rotate and close flush with the shell. The result is cleaner airflow, reduced wind noise and less aerodynamic drag, while dual stainless-steel locking posts help secure the chin bar when closed.
Vision has likewise been a major focus. Every GT1 Expedition comes supplied with both a clear visor and a photochromic shield that automatically adjusts to changing light conditions. Both offer optical Class 1 clarity, UV400 protection and infrared heat shielding,
while an included Pinlock anti-fog insert aims to keep vision clear regardless of weather conditions or altitude. Tool-free visor changes make swapping shields a simple roadside task.
Ventilation has been comprehensively redesigned with multiple intake and exhaust ports working alongside internal channels moulded through both the EPS and KOROYD layers. Separate chin vents provide dedicated airflow for the visor and rider ' s face, while four rear exhaust ports help extract warm air from inside the helmet. The direct-control ventilation system also includes a dedicated defogging mode for difficult riding conditions.
Inside, the premium finish continues with moisturewicking antibacterial liner materials, interchangeable cheek pads and crown liners, recessed speaker pockets for communication systems and leather trim around the chin curtain to reduce buffeting on long highway days. The helmet uses a micrometric quick-release buckle rather than traditional double D-rings, reflecting its touring-oriented design philosophy.
Safety credentials are equally impressive. The GT1 Expedition meets both ECE 22.06 and DOT certification standards, placing it among the latest generation of helmets built to satisfy increasingly demanding impact and rotational performance requirements.
Premium engineering inevitably comes with a premium price. In the United States the GT1 Expedition carries a recommended retail price of around US $ 1,000, positioning it at the very top of the modular adventure helmet market. However, for riders regularly spending weeks or months on the road, the extensive list of technologies and comfort features suggests KLIM is aiming to justify that investment through reduced fatigue, improved protection and greater all-day usability.
With lightweight carbon construction, innovative KOROYD energy management, sophisticated aerodynamics and a long list of touring-specific features, the GT1 Expedition signals KLIM ' s intention to challenge the established leaders in the premium modular helmet segment. For adventure riders seeking one helmet capable of handling everything from daily touring duties to transcontinental expeditions, it may prove to be one of the most significant helmet launches of the year.
