Sena Goes All-In on Adventure with New Outlander Smart Helmet
NEWS
Sena has taken a significant step beyond its traditional communications business, unveiling the Outlander, the company ' s first purpose-built adventure helmet. Rather than simply incorporating a Bluetooth communicator into an existing shell, Sena says the Outlander has been designed from the ground up as a fully integrated smart helmet for adventure and dualsport riders. For years, Sena has been synonymous with motorcycle communication systems, but the Outlander signals an ambitious move into the premium adventure helmet market, taking aim at riders who want seamless connectivity without the bulk and compromises of externally mounted intercom units.
The fiberglass composite shell is built around a multi-density EPS liner and carries both ECE 22.06 and DOT certification. Weighing a claimed 1720g( size Medium), the Outlander sits comfortably within the range of premium adventure helmets despite housing its extensive electronics entirely within the shell.
As expected, communication is where the Outlander really distinguishes itself. The helmet features Sena ' s latest Mesh Intercom 3.0, allowing virtually unlimited rider connections over a range of up to two kilometres in open terrain, while the company ' s Wave Intercom uses cellular data to extend communication well beyond traditional Bluetooth or Mesh limitations. Riders can switch between the two systems via dedicated controls positioned on the side of the helmet.
Entertainment and navigation duties are handled by premium Harman Kardon speakers and microphone, supported by AI-based noise cancellation designed to reduce wind and ambient noise without compromising voice clarity.
Sena claims the rechargeable battery provides up to 20 hours of talk time, with fast charging delivering several hours of communication after only a short recharge.
Adventure riders haven ' t been forgotten in the helmet ' s physical design either. The removable peak visor, toolfree shield removal system and Pinlock-ready face shield allow the Outlander to be quickly configured for everything from highway touring to technical off-road riding with goggles. Moisture-wicking interior fabrics and a semi-oval fit are intended to provide comfort over long days in the saddle.
One of the more unusual additions is Sena ' s integrated lighting system. A forward-facing LED light built into the chin bar improves visibility during low-light conditions, while a brake-activated rear light increases conspicuity for following traffic. The headlight automatically switches off after a preset period to conserve battery power and can be configured through the Sena smartphone app.
The Outlander also benefits from over-the-air firmware updates, allowing Sena to add new features and refinements without owners needing to connect the helmet to a computer. Operation is handled through a redesigned glove-friendly control system featuring a central joystick alongside dedicated communication buttons for quicker access while riding.
With premium adventure helmets increasingly becoming technology platforms as much as protective equipment, the Outlander represents Sena ' s boldest attempt yet to redefine what riders should expect from an adventure lid. Rather than asking riders to spend additional money on aftermarket communication systems, Sena is betting many will appreciate a factoryintegrated solution where every component has been designed to work together from day one.
Available in Matte Black and Graphic Gloss White, and in sizes S through XXL, the Sena Outlander enters the market as a premium offering aimed squarely at adventure riders who value both connectivity and convenience. If it delivers on its promises, it could become one of the most technically advanced adventure helmets currently available. TRAVERSE
