casually against low walls, helmets hanging from handlebars like quiet trophies from the road.
Stung Treng itself moves at a pace that feels several decades removed from the urgency of Southeast Asia’ s larger cities. The streets are wide and lightly trafficked, lined with small shops selling fishing nets, spare parts, soft drinks, and gasoline poured from glass bottles. There are cafés where old men sit with iced coffee and watch the river as if it were television. The town feels like a place that has learned patience from the water beside it.
After parking the motorcycle and peeling off dusty riding gloves, the first thing you notice is the breeze. It comes gently off the Mekong, carrying with it the cool scent of water and silt. It’ s the sort of breeze that makes the entire day’ s ride suddenly worthwhile.
