He stood up, fists clenched and immediately swung at me. He was too slow and I stepped sideways, grabbed him from behind, dragged him out of the Mexican Immigration Office and threw him on the road. I walked back in and the customs security officer closed and locked the entrance. The irate ' foreigner ', from somewhere north of the border, then started kicking the glass panel until it broke. The army were called, he was scooped up, rather violently and taken away.
We were in immigration trying to get residency when this fellow started screaming at the immigration officer. The security officer standing behind him was about four foot tall-on a good day, with high heels on, standing on a box. It looked like security was worried about confronting him and I had had enough of the rudeness so went in to reason with him but all I got was
" fuck off” and aggression.
The outcome of this little incident-we were offered four years temporary residency on the spot, which is now permanent. I do not recommend this method of attaining residency in a foreign land.
After circumnavigating Africa solo through 34 countries and 55,345 kilometres and circumnavigating South and Central America and Mexico through 21 countries and 205,000 kilometres with Cathy Nel, my partner, we found ourselves ' stuck ' in Mexico.
We have now ridden in 26 of the 32 Mexican states and covered more than 68,000 kilometres. Soon it will be time to head to Asia. I want to circumnavigate every continent before I am stiff and buried.
