Heritage Meets Modern Muscle in Indian’ s Chief Vintage

Indian Motorcycle has ignited its 125th anniversary celebrations with the unveiling of the 2026 Indian Chief Vintage, a motorcycle that looks forward by first looking back. The new Chief Vintage draws its design straight from the iconic Chiefs of the 1940s, reinterpreting flowing valanced fenders, a commanding silhouette and wire‐spoke wheels with modern engineering and performance that riders expect today.
The Chief Vintage is more than a stylistic exercise in nostalgia; it stands as a tribute to one of the most recognisable machines in American motorcycling history, reimagined for the open road of the present day. Indian’ s design team has intentionally echoed the hallmark features of the original 1940s model, from the sculpted front and rear valanced fenders and the illuminated headdress ornament to the narrow rear subframe and classic handlebars. The vintage solo seat has been reworked to provide modern comfort and ergonomic support, while carefully chosen finishes on the air‐cooled Thunderstroke 116 V‐Twin engine— including non‐machined black cylinders with silver‐painted heads and pushrod tubes— pay homage to the raw aluminium craftsmanship of early Chiefs.
Underneath its retro charm, the 2026 Chief Vintage brings contemporary performance and rider‐centric technology to the cruiser segment. The Thunderstroke 116 engine produces robust torque that gives effortless passing power across all gears, and riders can tailor throttle response with three selectable ride modes—
Tour, Standard, and Sport— to suit their riding style. The motorcycle also boasts features such as ABS, cruise control and a keyless ignition system that reflect modern expectations for safety and convenience.
A standout addition is Indian’ s 101 mm Round Touchscreen Display powered by RIDE COMMAND, now running updated software that improves startup and loading times by about 25 percent. The system supports App Enhanced Navigation, enabling riders to plan routes on their phone via Google Maps, Waze or Apple Maps and transfer them directly to the bike’ s screen. Paired with Bluetooth or USB connectivity, the display integrates ride information, turn‐by‐turn directions, music control and phone notifications into a single interface that can be operated via hand controls or touchscreen.
Indian Motorcycle is also offering a curated range of accessories designed to enhance comfort and practicality without diluting the Chief Vintage’ s classic appeal. Options such as highway bars, weather‐resistant vinyl saddlebags with over 19 litres of storage per bag, a quick‐release low windshield and premium handlebar grips cater to riders planning longer journeys or two‐up touring.
Positioned as both a homage and a reinvention, the 2026 Indian Chief Vintage encapsulates the brand’ s“ Never Finished” spirit— embracing its storied past while advancing into the future with thoughtful craftsmanship and purposeful design. TRAVERSE
