BMW’ s F 450 GS Redefines the Entry-Level Adventure Bike
At the 2025 EICMA motorcycle show in Milan, BMW Motorrad formally unveiled the long-anticipated entry into its adventure bike family: the BMW F 450 GS. This new machine marks a strategic shift for BMW, targeting lower license classes with a genuine GStype machine rather than simply a downsized learner offering. According to BMW’ s press release, the F 450 GS“ embodies the essence of a GS: Get on, twist the throttle, have fun – with full control and maximum confidence.”
Under the fairings lies a completely new 450 cc parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine, co-developed with Indian partner TVS Motor Company, that delivers 35 kW( 48 hp) and 43 Nm of torque, peaking at 8,750 rpm and 6,750 rpm respectively.
In a departure from the single-cylinder engine of the outgoing G 310 GS, this twin-cylinder layout provides a more refined, characterful feel better suited to a mix of on-road and light off-road use.
The declared ready-to-ride weight is 178 kg, giving the bike a compelling power-to-weight ratio in its class, if not a little heavy in some respects.
Visually, the F 450 GS carries forward the unmistakable GS family styling. That includes the“ X” shaped daytime-running-lights in the LED headlamp, the beak-style front extension and narrowed proportions, and the muscular fuel tank with sculpted side fairings.
The frame is a steel trellis with a bolton sub-frame, with front suspension via upside-down forks and a preloadadjustable monoshock at the rear, all configured for agility and genuine ride comfort both on pavement and in light trail conditions. Wheels are sized at 19-inch front and
17-inch rear, underscoring the bike’ s dualpurpose intent. Feature-wise BMW hasn’ t held back: the
F 450 GS comes standard with a 6.5-inch TFT display with full smartphone connectivity, LED lighting throughout, and BMW’ s Easy Ride Clutch( ERC) which is a clutch-lever-free system derived from a centrifugal clutch, facilitating easier gear changes especially in lowspeed or off-road scenarios.
It also boasts lean-angle sensing ABS( ABS Pro), a single large front brake disc( 310 mm) with Brembo fourpiston fixed caliper and a 240 mm disc at the rear, giving braking performance that BMW says is“ superior, stable deceleration”.
BMW’ s strategy with the F 450 GS is to fill the gap left by the G 310 GS which has been phased out and to establish a credible adventure bike offering in a more accessible segment without compromising the brand’ s GS DNA.
While BMW did not announce exact global pricing at EICMA, although manufactured at TVS’ s Hosur plant in India it is believed cost efficiencies will keep sale prices low.
The reaction among industry insiders is broadly positive. Observers note that BMW has crafted a machine that brings premium GS features, such as adjustable ergonomics, advanced electronics and accessory support, into the medium-displacement category that is increasingly in demand.
Some caution remains around how much of the premium content will be available as standard and how competitive pricing will be once key emerging-market rivals such as the Honda NX500 or the Benelli TRK 502 are factored in.
From the perspective of a BMW enthusiast or a rider seeking a versatile adventure bike that’ s manageable, light, and brand-backed, the F 450 GS presents an intriguing proposition: full GS aesthetics and heritage, modern twin-cylinder refinement, off-road readiness, and a weight that makes it accessible. If BMW meets its promise of quality and support globally, this could mark a significant new chapter in accessible adventuremotorcycle territory.
In sum, the BMW F 450 GS is not just a smaller GS; it is a recalibration of what“ entry-level” can mean for the GS lineup. With its uncanny balance of agility, technology and brand credibility, it aims to reposition BMW in a segment that has long been dominated by single-cylinder rivals.
