Riding for Clarity
Being close to cancer changes how you see the world. You notice the masks people wear to cover fear, the clothes chosen to hide scars, the withdrawals from social events when exhaustion wins. As a carer, sometimes the best medicine is a ride— helmet on, sun on your face, wind in your chest. Time to clear the mind.
I often think of the image of a bear sitting on a rock, gazing at the river, counting salmon. It’ s stillness, presence, and quiet strength. Sometimes we need to be that bear.
Every Kilometre Counts Research is vital in the fight against cancer. Every ride, every fundraiser, every donation chips away at the disease’ s power and brings us closer to a cure. On this ride alone, thanks to the generosity of everyone who turned up, we raised AU $ 2,327 for the Cancer Council.
It may not sound like much against the scale of the challenge, but in truth, every kilometre, every dollar, and every act of kindness matters. Because together, step by step, ride by ride, we’ re getting closer.
And one day, rides like Cruisin’ for a Cure won’ t be necessary. Until then, we keep riding. BW
