almost every building while other colours represented the three other towns that would take part in the celebrations. These colours invited closer inspection and led to more narrow streets that felt older than those around the piazza.
Laneways and old stairs drew us into a world of tradition and world of colourful artworks. We were led to believe that just a week prior another festival had taken place, one that had seen many artists descend upon Pietralunga to paint scenes of local life all across the town, especially within the oldest quarter.
Simple, sometimes naïve, scenes were depicted mostly on canvases that were already in place. Utility covers, access holes, and metal grids, were painted in a mix of styles each unique and worthy of an exhibition. I grinned at the thought, as here they were being given an exhibition for all to see yet only visible if you went looking for them.
