as riding in torrential rain was not really fun.
The town we stayed in was Kitulgala; made famous not only for the white-water rafting, but it was the site of the bridge in the movie Bridge on the River Kwai. I’ d read the book in school and those my age and above would remember the movie. I think it was filmed there in the late 1950 ' s and won something like seven Academy awards.
For my last day on the bike, I saw my final elephant being walked like a dog on a lead down the road. This big bloke belonged to a temple and was well cared for with his massive single tusk.
The Friday evening before I was due to fly out, I took a walk along Negombo beach, it was the place to be. Every man, woman and child, Tuk Tuk and even a horse was on the beach. Walking along the sand watching the sun go down gave me the opportunity to reflect on the last two weeks and how much I got to see and do. Fifteen hundred kilometres on a dirt bike, elephants, leopards, amazing views, great food, and of course Nemos good company.
I ' m so glad I didn ' t attempt to ride the Emerald Isle alone, for one, I would have spent half my days lost and secondly, it was so easy to just follow along, my accommodation was arranged, I saw the very best of what Sri Lanka had to offer and I was treated like a queen!
