SOUTH PACIFIC ISLANDS: Natural Wonders and Sustainable Practices
Fiji leads the South Pacific Island nations in adventure tourism, boasting a well-established tourism industry with a strong emphasis on sustainability and safety. By further improving natural resource management, Fiji can solidify its position as a top destination for eco-conscious adventurers.
“ Fiji is an adventure person’ s paradise,” admits Jase Shug of Mai Island Ride.“ Riding a dirt bike in Fiji is not well known as most think it’ s a small island and all surf and dive. There is so much to offer in the vast variety of riding terrain available.”
Jase went on to suggest that the Fijian people are some of the friendliest in the world, not only in their nature but also brought on by having stable governments.
He admits that the report put forward by the ATDI doesn’ t have a great outlook for health services in Fiji but“ it’ s important to note that medical services are readily available and of good quality. The ongoing development of healthcare infrastructure further strengthens this aspect.
“ Additionally, the proximity of Australia and New Zealand, with daily flights, provides further reassurance for worst-case scenarios,” he continues.“ As an adventure tour operator, we believe safety is paramount, and we maintain rigorous safety procedures for all our activities.”
Infrastructure in many aspects is something that is being addressed by the Fijian government in relation to tourism.
“ The development of new adventure tourism options and land-based activities has brought a renewed focus on infrastructure development,” Jase added, although he does admit that a lack of road infrastructure suits Mai Island Ride perfectly.
Palau, renowned for its pristine marine environment, also shows great promise, but needs to focus on developing its tourism infrastructure and promoting its unique offerings to a wider audience.
Samoa, with its strong entrepreneurial spirit, has the potential to become a major player in adventure tourism. However, addressing infrastructure limitations and enhancing its global image will be crucial to attracting more visitors. Similarly, Vanuatu and Tonga, while offering safe and climate-resilient environments, need to improve resource management, infrastructure, and international promotion to compete effectively in the regional market.
