As with the previous year , Honda was able to get two of its machines on the podium . Tosha Schareina placed second , his first time on the Dakar podium , while his teammate , Adrien Van Beveren repeated last year ’ s performance to claim third . Luciano Benavides achieved the best result of his career to take fourth place , while title holder Ricky Brabec took another Honda to the top five positions .
Edgar Canet , the youngest official rider in the history of the Dakar at the age of 19 years , also became the youngest rider to win the Rally 2 class , as well as finishing as the best rookie . The emerging Spanish star triumphed in front of Austrian hope Tobias Ebster . Romain Dumontier in third place accomplished a fourth consecutive podium finish in the class and was also the leading non-KTM rider behind the handlebars of his Honda .
In the same class was newcomer to Dakar , Toby Hederics . The young Australian rider finished as the second placed rookie and nineth overall in class , a position
