marble wall on which the writing " Henraux " still towers . Inside , the view of the rugged carved marble walls is almost surreal and timeless , just like , continuing for a handful of kilometres along the provincial road 13 that connects Versilia to Garfagnana , the spectacle that we will encounter in front of Isola Santa , the small village that , like in a postcard , is peacefully reflected in the water of the artificial lake that stretches out at its feet .
It was at this point that in 1950 the river was dammed with the construction of a wall necessary to produce electricity . With the construction of the dam , which still serves a power plant just below , the river has become a lake , submerging an ancient mill and a medieval bridge under its waters . A story similar to the one we will encounter only twenty kilometres later in Vagli di Sotto , where the waters of the artificial lake have instead hidden the medieval village of Fabbriche di Careggine , a submerged village that every time maintenance work on the reservoir requires it , the last time was in 1994 , resurfaces from the bottom of the lake like a ghost from the past .
