When the 411cc Himalayan was released worldwide during 2016 Royal Enfield seemed to have a winner on their hands , a bike that stepped away from the conventions of the Indian brand and seemed to be targeting a new market sector .
The earlier version of the Himalayan , although a favourite with some riders , was seen as somewhat of a “ Frankenstein ’ s monster ”, taking some of the best ideas of other manufacturers and many more of the worst , to be combined into a bike that some suggested was not only ugly but verging on ridiculous .
Early versions of the 411 were fraught with issues , substandard manufacturing processes saw a number of problems that affected quality resulting in numerous failures , more experienced riders decided the 411 was a bike to avoid .
Royal Enfield took notice of what many riders were saying and looked to ways of improving the manufacturing as well as the bike in general . In some ways it worked , and whilst the Himalayan 411 was seen as a good all round adventure touring bike , especially in developing markets , it fell well short of what the Europeans and Japanese were producing .
